Sacred Prayer & Mystical Contemplation

Prayer is the breathing of the soul and the conversation of man with God. Drawing upon the doctor-mystics of the Church—St. Teresa of Avila, St. John of the Cross, St. Francis de Sales, and St. Ignatius of Loyola—this pathway leads the soul through the three classic stages of the spiritual life: the Purgative, Illuminative, and Unitive ways.

For Catholics seeking to move beyond routine vocal prayers into interior mental prayer, silent adoration, mystical contemplation, and victorious spiritual warfare.

• Distinguish between vocal prayer, meditation (mental prayer), and infused contemplation.
• Understand the three ways of the interior life according to Carmelite spiritual theology.
• Overcome common prayer obstacles: distractions, aridity, sloth (acedia), and spiritual dryness.
• Learn the Ignatian method of meditation and discernment of spirits.
• Practice Eucharistic Adoration and interior recollection in daily life.

To attain habitual interior recollection and union of the soul with God through transformative, persevering prayer.

Structured across five spiritual growth modules:

2. Vocal Prayer & Liturgical Devotions
3. Meditation & Mental Prayer Methods
4. The Interior Castle & The Three Ways
5. Infused Contemplation & Eucharistic Adoration

Learners will establish a daily rule of mental prayer (15–30 minutes), overcome spiritual aridity with patience, and grow in the infused theological virtues.

One lesson per week accompanied by daily practice of mental prayer. Total duration: 12 hours over 5 weeks.
